Conduct civil construction excavator operations: pre-start, safe digging near services, and working around ground crew.
Walk around the machine, check tracks, hydraulics, fluids, attachments and the cabin. Test controls and the horn, record the pre-start and report any defect.
Locate and pothole underground services by hand before mechanical digging. Treat all located services as live and maintain the no-go clearance.
Establish an exclusion zone around the slew radius. Make positive eye contact and use agreed signals before anyone approaches; never slew over people.
Lower the attachment to the ground, apply park brake, idle down, isolate and remove the key. Leave the machine stable and secure.
